Women Reporting War

Introduction

The International News Safety Institute has drawn attention to safety issues specifically affecting women covering conflicts. This includes international and local correspondents and support staff.

There is concern that female journalists may face particular dangers not encountered by their male counterparts when working in areas of conflict or reporting on criminal and repressive regimes. This is particularly relevant for countries where women in general do not enjoy the same rights and protections as males.

INSI conducted a global survey to determine what safety considerations, in terms of procedures and equipment, might apply specifically to female journalists.
