A bomb has exploded at a local radio station building in the eastern Libyan port of Darnah, causing structural damage, the official Libyan WAL News Agency reported on 17 December. An armed group also attempted to kill members of the security forces response team, WAL said.

The radio station's director told WAL the explosion occurred before dawn and the damage meant the station's daily broadcast had to be halted.

In addition, the city's security forces chief, Colonel Mufid Abd al-Hafid, and his team, who were on their way to the site of the explosion, survived an "assassination attempt" by an unknown armed group who "showered them with bullets before fleeing", WAL said.

Colonel Abd al-Hafid told WAL that neither he nor any member of his team was wounded in the attack.
